Hi there,
I just have a question. Multisite is clear to me as long as wek have one domain, one installation etc.
BUT, can I use elgg in any way to use one database (and one instance) to take care of different domains?! I guess not, but I thought I ask...
The idea is t run at least two domains with one database so the users are common while the domain name and the subdomain names can be different. The next step would be to include the english version of both domains, so there would be four all together. But let's star twith two if that is possible at all...
All the best,
Linus

The creation of new sites needs some DB hacking. THe issue is in the definition of "Domain" and "Community". At the moment the Multisite management (admin area) is made for 1 Domain with multiple Communities (user created). We should improve the "Domain" and "Community" management.

You must log in to post replies.Hi linus, no pb you can manage different domain on the same installation.
When you want to start a new domain, follow theses steps :
- go to admin->community->settings and choose the current community (the one you are logged in
- change its domain name with the name of the domain you want to start (lets's newdomain.com)
- create a new community, then you will see that the new community will be a subdomain of newdommain.com
-give a subdomain name to your new community, lets say "www"
- create the new community and then you will get a www.newdomain.com community
of course you need to add the newdomain.com into your vhosts and manage the newdomain.com dns to lead to your installation.
cheers
Actually it's possibile.
Look at this Multisite:
Hi Alivin;
Sorry but as i said in my post above, i designed the multisite plugin to allow multiple domains, there is no need of DB hacking for that.
Just follow the steps i mentionned in my post above, and see how it goes
as an example those two sites are running on different domains on the same installation
