Plugins are great, but often a bit of code change can make a difference.
Developers are too busy to read and respond to every How-To request (if not directly connected to their plugins), and they just can't make a whole plugin to solve a "small" issue anyway. Elgg-savvy users can share their experience with others in simple problem solving.
