This plugin allows to create collaborative video editing by using the api of Kaltura.
Kaltura is the "First Open Source Video Platform" as they say in his web.
I've used his api to develop a plugin to easy create videos in a Elgg site. The videos are hosted in kaltura's site but is transparent for the end user. They provide for free up to 3GB of streaming per month.
INSTALLING:
Please, read the README file comming with the plugin!
Note that you need to register in kaltura as a cms partner and configure properly the plugin befor use it (end users, do not need to know this steps).
You need also the CURL libraries for PHP (I say this because is the first problem for many people).
UPGRADING:
Remove the all plugin and put the folder "kaltura_video" in the plugins folder.
Log in as administrator and press the button "Rebuild all the video objects", this is to apply the changes to your currently existings videos.
0.9 RELEASE
This version comes with this new features from the version 0.8 (you can find this old version in the community plugin history):
- GUI changes to be more integrated into Elgg standards.
- Added Comments
- Added Rating
- Added details editor (title, description, tags)
- Added videos for groups, this allows to create collaborative videos (the user has to create the video inside the group context and mark the collaborative checkbox). Collaborative videos allows to any member of the group to edit the video (but not the details, title, description, tags).
- New "recreate videos" way. Now can be slower but more reliable.
- Generally speed up process. Now kaltura is contacted only when is strictly necessary, in most cases by ajax.
- Bug fixes (like the update plays status).
0.9.1 RELEASE
This version solves the thumbnail generation problem by ajax metadata update. Other bugs could remain unsolved.
PLANS FOR THE FINAL 1.0
I've named this version 0.9 only to enhance the "Beta" status of the plugin. When all bugs will be solved and more languages are integrated I will rename it to 1.0 and post here.
HELP NEEDED:
I you want to help me to improve this plugin you can:
- Translate to your language and send me to include it in the package.
- Help me to test this plugins in diferent Elgg installations.
- You can of course, propose technical changes and help me to implement it if you know how.
- Feature request it's interesting but only for future releases of the plugin.
CONTACT ME:
Please read the README file to find my email, you can write to me for any personal questions.
To make comments, do it here (it seems now it's allowed).
SCREENSHOTS:
Look some screenshots here:
Unfortunatlly, I'ts difficult to me to test the plugin under Mac OS. I think this problem is due javascript+flash plugin. I'll try to solve it but not too quickly.
Thanks to search bugs

Hello and thank you for this amazing plugin.
I can verify that this plugin works perfectly using Mac/Firefox. The problem lies in Mac/Safari. Particularly on the last step: In the create a thumbnail screen, when you click "finish" it crashes the browser. I've tested this with a few computers and the same thing happens every-time.
Maybe this is just happening to me, but I've also found that I cannot use this plugin with groups from any browser. When I am finished with the uploading process and Im at the group page, there is no thumbnail to view video, I am able to access the video from "my videos" but when I click it, the video player is different and it never finds the uploaded video.
Finally, in languages, it should read "Privacy" instead of "Privacity"
I am extremely grateful for your work, please contact me if you need help testing this on mac.

Hi Ivan... Great work...
There is a way to change the language of Kaltura interface? I'm trying it on my test website and it's is just working with Internet Explorer. When I use Firefox or Chrome it still loading eternally!!! Do you know why??? Thanks Regards and Happy new year...

(I work with Sam!) Very interested in this. We will be giving it ago on our Beta site and will provide some feedback shortly thereafter. Kaltura looks like a cool platform- the "Community Edition" you can host yourself is very interesting too! I love the idea of fully hosted media-management available to the user in-platform. Much more elegant that the usual "cut and paste" style of embedding video.

Very nice! Best plugin in the scene.
I've just sent you the Dutch translations.
A few things I've noticed:
- Some translations wont show the translated strings: the 'blue' menuitems, and the title still show English labels.
- Something weird happens when the video-object appears after the upload/editing process. The thumbnails wont appear, only after awhile or when editing the video or details afterwards. I think it's probably due to browsercaching.

Is this working for you consistently on Mac/Safari and Mac/Firefox? ... for me, it bugs out and auto-closes the browser upon completing upload of a video--appears to be a JavaScript bug or perhaps a browser setting. I really want to use this, but not sure if all browsers can handle it.
