What is this? 

This is an idea that I had a long time ago and that Matt Beckett helped me bring it to reality:

So, I have several public blogs on my site, that gets hundreds of clicks, which is good, however spammers were making comments on the blog. I wanted to keep my blogs public, receiving comments only from my friends.

So, I started thinking about the default access, which in my perspective is pretty bad. Why? Well, if only have access for friends, public, private. Nothing about comments. That's why this plugin exist. Hopefully this plugin will fill that privacy void.

Is this really necessary? 

Yes, look at the other social networking platforms/sites. Pictures are public but only friends can comment. This kind of privacy is required if you go big as a social networking site. Major networking sites has this, and you should. In fact, it should be part of elgg.

Did you by yourself developed this?

No. Matt Becket came with the solution. I had the idea, but was confused on how to make things work. Thanks btw

- You have to be reciprocal friends in order to post a comment on your friends files.

- Make some sort of UI so that users can select whether or not allow public or only friends comments
