Access Collection Management for Roles

This plugin creates and maintains:

1. Global ACLs for each role defined in the system that contain all users with a given role

2. Role-based Friends collections for each user

Administrator interface (Admin -> Roles -> Manage ACLs) will allow you to specify, which access collections should be visible to users with a given role.

To illustrate the functionality:

Let's say your website has 2 roles defined: Teachers and Students.

After enabling this plugin, each user will have 4 new access collections:

1. All Teachers - all users that have registered in the system and have been assigned the Teacher's role

2. All Students - all users that have registered in the system and have been assigned the Student's role

3. 'Friended' Teachers - different for each user; contains all of user's friends with a Teacher's role

4. 'Friended' Students - different for each user; contains all of user's friends with a Student's role

As an administrator, you can allow Teachers to post content visible to e.g. other fellow teachers and all students. Students on the other hand maybe prevented from seeing any of the above in their Access dropdowns.

Please note that this hasn't been tested with very large user bases. Refer to your logs if operations time out on installation.

This project integrates Roles Framework (by Arck Interactive) with Profile Manager (by ColdTrick).

Once enabled, this plugin will create an initial set of Profile Types associated with each custom role. Further editing can be done via profile manager's admin interface.

Roles are automatically updated on profile type change, and vice versa role change trigger a profile type change.

This plugin adds more granular access to your site by introducing a new user role: Group Administrator.

When using this plugin, regular members of your site won't be able to create groups. A user has to be a Group Administrator to create a new group. To appoint one of your users as a Group Administrator, change this user's role to 'Group Administrator'. You can do this by going to the user's settings page, which is something like http://your-site-url/settings/user/username . Alternatively, you can also grant and revoke Group Admin privileges via the user icon hover menu. Make sure you're logged in as an admin user - this is required to change user roles.

The plugin requires the Roles framework - make sure you install and enable that one first.

Moderators can edit other users' content and view or act on reported content, but can't access other admin features.
Roles

Elgg basically recognizes two types of users: members (ordinary users) and administrators (users who can do everything on the site). More often than not, you'd need additional user types and associated privileges what each "user type" can do to your site.

By using this plugin, you can easily introduce custom roles, restricting groups of users to certain privileges. Please understand that the Roles plugin, in its current state, is rather a framework than a full stand-alone plugin. You'll need to make additional tweaks, or use extension plugins, to make the custom roles work.

You can find detailed documentation under docs/manual.pdf.
